Overview of the mandatory driver training for you over 25 years old
The Norwegian driver training programme consists of four mandatory stages.
There is no mandatory number of driving lessons.
However, before moving on to the next stage, the instructor must assess that the student has reached the required level of knowledge and driving skills.

Stage 1 – Basic Courses

Accident First Aid (4 × 45 minutes) – NOK 1.300

Driving in Darkness (3 × 45 minutes) – NOK 2,000
Stage 2

Stage Assessment 2 (45 minutes)
The instructor assesses whether your basic vehicle control is sufficient to continue to Stage 3.

Stage 3

Stage Assessment 3 (60 minutes)
The instructor assesses your traffic awareness, risk perception and driving skills before you continue to the final stage.

Safety Course on a Closed Driving Track (Skid Course) 4 teaching hours of 45 min
Prices:
Car with manual transmission – NOK 5,700
Car with automatic transmission - NOK 5,400
An additional NAF track fee of NOK 1,550 applies.
The additional track fee is the same for both car types.
Stage 4

Safety Course on the Road (13 × 45 minutes)
This is the final mandatory course and includes classroom instruction, long-distance driving and driving in different traffic environments.

Car with automatic transmission - NOK 12,480
Practical Driving Test
The practical driving test is conducted by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Vegvesen).
To take the practical driving test, you must:

Complete all mandatory training.

Pass the theory test.

Have your police background check approved.

Submit a medical certificate if required.
You must arrange the following yourself:

Apply for a Norwegian driving licence.

Complete the police background check (processed automatically after your application).

Pass the theory test.

Book the practical driving test.
Estimated mandatory training costs
The total cost of the mandatory training is:
Car with manual transmission – NOK 24,400
Car with automatic transmission - NOK 23,580
In addition, you should expect:

NAF driving track fee: NOK 1,550

Use of the driving school's car for the practical driving test: NOK 3,900
(The fee charged by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration for the driving test is not included.)
A standard 45-minute driving lesson costs NOK 995 outside any package.
